"one of the best"
great hotel to stay at, very clean and staff very helpful. I had my 13 month old grandson with us, the hotel had no issue with us bringing own travel cot and even made scrambled eggs for him in the morning. Plenty clean towels and tea/coffee in room was all fresh. The only complaint was room was very warm (admittedly it was October and weather was unusually warm). I would recommend this hotel to my friends. There is easy access to Southampton and Portsmouth as the motorway is only 5 minutes away.
Portsmouth is great for its historic naval base and walking down Southsea front.

This once was a wonderful old building
Botleigh Grange must have been a wonderful old building, but now is tired and needs renovating. Rooms 6 whilst clean, the bed was like sleeping in a bowl of blamange, the matress needs to be thrown away. The dining room has very little character, and on our third day the breakfast became a marathon of asking for items, because they were not on the table and the coffee was far too strong (and I like strong coffee), even after they changed the pot, it was still like syrup! As for the spa it writes a good story but doesnt come up to expectation. Only one private changing room, only two chairs to put your towel on whilst in the water. No robes if you are a guest! The lakes looked like cess pits and as for any wildlife - totally non existant. A shame because it could be so nice with just a little thought and care
I would recommend the Shamblington P.H. just down the road if you want a good meal, very reasonable

What a gem ! New owners have created a wonderful experience -- great restaurant.
When we first made our reservations we were a somewhat concerned based on reviews at TripAdvisor. However, when arrived we instantly found that was the old story. The owners have refurbished the facility to give the feeling of a country estate. The staff was most helpful and very cheery (or is that just the Brit way). We stayed for several days prior to boarding a cruiser in Southampton. It is about a 20 minute walk to a train station in Hedge End and we used the trains to day trip to Bath, Stonehenge, Salsbury, and Winchester. The grounds give you that feeling of country with cows and horse, a lake, large green area with trees. What wonderful stay !
Traveller's tip
Getting there can be a challenge. We took the National Express bus from Heathrow to Southampton. Then we took cab to the Grange - about 15 BPS. Well worth it in that we stayed for several to tour the countryside.
