Great hotel, could use some improvements

This was a great hotel. A few complaints, in order of biggest concerns to smaller ones: - Some of the towels were stained yellow, with the worst (a bath towel) having a large dark brown stain on it. Not acceptable for a hotel of this calibur - We did not receive "Complimentary" airport shuttle service on arrival, and not knowing how much we can bargain with the taxis, had to pay over $40 for the cab ride to the hotel - Some of the finishings in the rooms are showing wear and need updates (ie. wood on bathroom doors is heavily stained) - Service on weekends seemed worse than the service we received during the rest of the time. Other than that, we had a great time. The breakfast every morning was great, and the service was very good as well. Even with these complaints we would go back again.

Alila

With the exception of the hard beds, this hotel was exceptional. Food was fantastic, the view over the pool is incredible, the service is five star. Only 20 minutes from Ubud which offers a host of restaurants and shopping I cant trecommend this hotel highly enough.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Use one of thye local drivers and arrange a day of sightseeing, around $40

Disappointing

Although the setting is pretty impressive, the buildings are looking tired and worn. Rooms are small, and worse for the wear. Irritatingly the free wi-fi doesn’t work in a lot of the rooms, the hotel car service was disorganized and the free breakfasts very disappointing. There is only one restaurant and that is poor. The coffee was great but not much else. There are better places in the area of Ubud.

A Little Tired

This hotel used to be the Chedi Ubud. It has a very good location overlooking the Ayung River gorge. The restaurant/bar is excellent in terms of food, service and location and the infinity swimming pool is impressive. However, the rooms disappoint and there is a feeling that they are a little tired and maintenance has not been kept up adequately. None of the rooms have TV. In all and compared to other properties we stayed in in Bali this hotel was disappointing and did not meet up fully to our expectations.

A great upmarket boutique hotel

Great experience to stay on the rice terraces, as well as along the Aeyung river ravine

Traveller's tip on local attractions

You must stay at least 3 days in Ubud, which is at the centre of the craft villages. The main villages around are Cheluk, Mas and Tegalalang. Each village has its own specialty. Paintings are best in Main Ubud village itself. Others are for Stone carvings, wood carvings and Jewellery.

Beautiful hotel

The Alila Ubud has a wonderful location just outside Ubud. Public spaces, including restaurant and swimming pool, were excellent with beautiful valley view. However, the superior room was on a small side with no TV or bath tub. Service was good.

Absolutly fabulous.

This hotel was more than a discovery for me.I was more than pleased to arrive in this treasure after a long voyage. Don’t skip the breakfast à la carte.

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

Bicycles available for those who want to discover the surrounding rice fields.
