Luxury amid poverty
World-class hotel in a beautiful beachside setting. Alas, Durban is so crime-ridden we couldn’t walk to the ocean we saw from our window. Perfect homebase for Comrades runners. Excellent services, comparable to a much larger city in a first-world country.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Visit the Campbell Collection (a short taxi ride away) for a taste of Colonial times. Excellent African art alongside British Royal family souvenirs.

Extremely comfortable
The hotel was extremely comfortable and met all my needs - including FA Cup football in my room on the Saturday!! The food was excellent. The only negative was when the bill arrived. It included a charge for breakfast on three of the four days I was there despite the fact it was included in the price I had paid. To their credit it was immediately removed. the moral - always check every detail on your bill.

Durban Hilton
Excellent Hotel and the staff are very warm and helpful. Only complaint is that the automatic card system locked us out of the room three days in a row and the plumbing in the shower was poorly done meaning lots of water often flowed out onto the bathroom floor at shower time. I’d be happy to stay there again (minus the plumbing problems)...room service menu is huge with a wide selection of items.
