Waikikis hidden treasure
Hotel was at a great location. 5 min from Main Beach, 10 min from Zoo. All city buses stop at the end of the street. The rooms are small but well kept. Hotel employees very friendly. Great hotel for the price.

No doubt would stay again
This hotel had fantastic service: loads of information from the friendly front desk staff and driving directions from the valet guys every day - even got a car wash when I mentioned the rental had no windshield wiper fluid. Simple free breakfast out by the pool every day was nice. Good location - close to everything. The only thing that light sleepers might want to consider is that Ala Wai Blvd. (the one way street heading west just north of the hotel) is extremely busy and pretty noisy at most hours of the day and night. Nice lobby, restaurant/bar and pool. The rooms were on the small side but how much time do you spend in your room when in beautiful Hawaii?! Extremely good value, I would absolutely stay here again!
The House Without a Key restaurant at the Halekulani Hotel is a must do. Very romantic with a three piece band and former Miss Hawaii dancing traditional hula. Also, you must rent a car and see the two best beaches on the island: Kailua beach in Kailua (a gorgeous location for swimming and sunning, very quiet compared to Waikiki) and Waimea Bay Beach, just past Haleiwa on the North Shore (for big wave watching in the winter, great swimming in the summer). Also, Frommers and Fodors guidebooks are invaluable tools for: driving directions, prices and hours of operation and just general "best of."
