Good price for good hotel
Very happy with our experience of the Rus Hotel. Staff spoke good English & were very helpful. Money exchange in hotel lobby with same rates as in the city. Breakfast pretty good. Restaurant very reasonably priced. Avoid the Avis taxi company in the lobby as they are much more expensive than other cabs. It is a short walk to the main high street & metro from hotel. Definately recommend this place.
If you intend to walk a lot get a map with street name in Cyrillic! None of the streets are signposted in the English alphabet so you will get lost (as we did!) so find a map, preferably before you go, that has the correct language on it. Metro is very cheap & ok but connecting stations are hard to negotiate (for same reason as above). We got bus from front of airport which takes you to rear of train station (about £2), walk through station & get taxi from there but agree price first (we found most journeys are about £5 within the city. Go to ’Billa’ supermarket for your provisions, its at the start of the main street & very cheap.

Reasonable price/value for Kiev
Hotel Rus is rather conveniently located about 10 minutes walking from Khreschatyk street, the main walking street of Kiev. The rooms are rather small but are good equiped, standard rooms have two single beds. The restaurant is good enough, there is a business center with good connection and hotel security is good but not to tough when you bring in visitors. I was on a short leisure stay and would consider next time anyway to rent a service apartment and do not take hotel option, but in case of hotel option this has a good price/value balance for Kiev.

Have stayed there many times
It is a VERY NICE hotel. Very western in many aspects. Rooms are fairly small by western standards, but modern, clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is SUPERB ! ! ! The food from the bar and restaurant at other times of the day is fair, so best to eat OUT at a local restaurant instead ! ! ! (It will be MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE at a local restaurant, as well as much better food!) The location is superb! On top of a small hill, just 1/4 mile away from old "Fortess Kiev" - an old restored fort that overlooks the entire city. And the downtown is a 1/8 mile walk down the hill and you are there! ! For the price, this is the BEST BUY in Kiev - without a doubt!!!
From the Kiev Airport (KBP), the TAXI DRIVERS will rob you blind, if you let them. The equivalent of $20 USD is MORE THAN SUFFICIENT - even then, you are still overpaying compared to the locals. They will lie through the teeth and work together to keep the prices high for foreigners, so they will ALL give you an extremely high price. So, if you cannot get one down to $20 USD, call the RUS HOTEL and have them pick you up! But ask them for a PRICE! - so when the hotel’s cab arrives at the airport, he won’t attempt to cheat you!
