Thon Hotel Polar
Oct 08 - arrived for a short break- this hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment so there is noise from 8 till 4 including Saturday - We stayed in a room that had been refurbished and it is clean, modernistic and functional - Considering how expensive Norway is, this is good value but check that all bldg works are complete before you go
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Northern Lights - Don’t take any notice of the Norwegian Tourist Board (lights can be seen Oct to March) - locals told us you that to see them it HAS to be cold and that’s normally Jan/Feb time

Typical 3 star - basic
Old and tired but room was fairly clean so OK for a short stay. Bathroom tiny with no rails for towels/clothes. Went for the midnight sun and had trouble sleeping as the curtains are not heavy; not good for a city with 24 hr daylight. Didn’t deal with staff much, only at check in and check out but they were friendly.
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks
Saved money by buying combined bus & cable car ticket. No day ticket available for the bus or pass for attractions. Expensive for such a small town!
