Some good points and some bad....

The positive’s are that the hotel is in a good location in the old town, close to the Cathederal and many restaurants and bars. The hotel facilities are ok, maybe in need of a little updating/refurbishment, but acceptable. The general cleanliness of the rooms is very good and the extensive hot/cold buffet breakfast is first class. Unfortuately there were some negative aspects to our stay at the hotel, these detract from the positive and makes one question it’s 4* status. These include: no bell hop to carry luggage, bed linen not being changed daily (2-3 days on average!), the AC switching off without a room key being inserted all the time (could be a problem for solo travellers who will only be issued with one key that they will need to take with them when leaving the room), no valet parking, hotel car parking spaces only total four plus two ’very mini’ spaces that many drivers would struggle to park their vehicle in, house keeping staff very stingy with the hotel toiletries (we had to leave notes on several occasions asking them to leave shower gel)and the daily charge for the in room safe, although only small, seemed petty! Probably all the above could have been tolerated better if when checking out after an eight night stay we had been given a ’goodbye’ from the receptionist....yes, the receptionist didn’t even thank us for our stay or say goodbye!

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

1.Check a hotel car parking space is available before you book a room..there are only six spaces! 2.If there are two of you occupying a room you should be issued with two room keys. Make sure that you leave one key in the room to activate the AC when you head out for evening dinner otherwise it will switch off & the room with be roasting when you arrive back! During the day you will have to wait until the room has been serviced and the maids are clear before you can do this!

I’d go again

I don’t often say I’d go back to a hotel, but this is an exception. In our experience, the Saratoga is ideally situated, well-maintained and clean, with very good service. We are very noise-sensitive, but our room at the back of the hotel (with a nice view of the cathedral and - just - the sea)was extremely quiet. The penthouse pool area is small but well worth a visit for the stunning panorama. Don’t miss the jazz club on the seventh floor on Fridays and Saturdays (2300-0100)

Traveller's tip on local attractions

After you’ve got your bearings, instead of turning right out of the hotel into the main shopping area, take a left and, at the end of the parade of shops, get down to the front by the many little alleyways that have some nice patisseries, craft shops and other little gems.
