A good bargain for a decent hotel, but a long way from downtown.
We picked this hotel because of the photos on Expedia of the water view. The nightly rate triples for Halloween, to an outrageous sum, but that was also true for the other hotels on the island. Their nightly rate after Halloween was very reasonable. The room was small (but always well-cleaned), 1950s vintage architecture, with noisy Hwy 1 outside that you can hear all night. Probably much quieter on the back (pool) side of the hotel, but then you dont get the spectacular view of the Gulf of Florida across the highway. Conceirge Terry was very friendly & helpful. Some (but not all) of the kids at the front desk, less so. The pool is awesome: beautiful surroundings, very warm water, bar nearby; could stay in there & gaze at the full moon all night. Very few restaurants, bars, etc. in the area. You have to take a cab or drive to the other end of the island. Exceptions would be: Town & Tavern, Hurricane Hole, and breakfast at Allen Merrills Cafe at the "Inn at Key West", which are all nearby (walking distance) and wonderful. Oh...Dennys is also adjacent to the hotel.
I can see why people go to the Keys and never leave: coral reef islands surrounded by turquoise water; sub-tropical weather, vegetation and wildlife; and an atmosphere of laid back, peaceful, all-inclusiveness. Its easy to forget what day of the week it is.

Wont stay there again
Checked in and weht to room and they had twin beds instead of king size I hag reserved. Went to fittness center at 6:00 am and was told it didnt open until 7:00, even though their web site said it was open 24/7. The third day we returned from an all day sailing trip and found the room untouched and the desk told us that housekeeping had left for the day as well as the manager. They brought us two clean towls and that was it. Love the Keys but I wont stay there again and will tell everyone what a bad exsperiance it was.
