Poor and arrogant service
How this hotel maintains its 5 star rating is beyond me. The staff are rude, arrogant and frankly unhelpful. The hotel looks like some garish 1980s throwback and rooms average by five star standards. Avoid.

Very good hotel per se but poor location and expensive...
Positive points: - No problems with the hotel itself. Clean, quiet, comfortable rooms, polite staff etc. Negative points: - No gym in hotel. (A minor point, I know, but I thought it would have one for 5 star status). - All rooms have "classic" decor throughout, which may please the older couple. I would have preferred contemporary suites, and Im sure some of the pictures on the site were contemporary, but on enquiry at reception this was not the case. - The pool is quite small and only gets sun between 1pm and 4pm because the hotel is surrounded by other hotels. You are not permitted to take ANY food or drink around the pool but have to buy from the poolside bar, which brings me to the next point... - Very expensive! I know the Pound and Euro are 1:1 currently, but to pay almost 10 Euros for a bottle of beer and over 20 for a club sandwich seems expensive. - Most important point - in a dodgy, run down area of Madrid (the "Salamanca" area) with several strip bars / nude shows nearby, and lack of basic supermarkets / shops to get even water. A good 40 min ride via Metro into Playa del Sol, the main area for sightseeing, tapas bars, clubs, restaurants, etc. - Dont listen to the Concierge. He recommended a restaurant around the corner. We went there, and were presented with a menu, on which the daily special was a seafood mix grill. For 158 Euros! Slightly over budget for one meal.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If I stayed again, I would be nearer the Playa del Sol, in the "Downtown" area of Madrid.
