Overall a good stay
This hotel seems to be situated in an area in transition. The question is, "transition to what?" To reach it ones drives through a mixed residential and business area. The hotel sits right on the inlet and backs up to a nice little series of docks crowded with sail boats and other leisure craft. There is a public walk way all along the water front that makes for a pleasant (but chilly) stroll. The walk leads past a charming community of floating homes (think Sleepless in Seattle but funkier) to a dock where a fleet of dinner cruise boats awaits. However, the hotels fronts on an gloomy abandoned industrial site (apparently now used as the parking lot for the floating homes.) The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room was utilitarian. The hallways are dingy and reek of the meals cooked in the rooms, as is typical in Extended Stay properties. Overall, I found the place a good value. Definitely not a romantic getaway, but fine for a short trip if you need to be in the area.
Traveller's tip on dining
My GPS said there was a Chevys in easy walking distance, Turns out, it is now closed. A short walk further is a seafood and pasta place the desk person recommended. It has a great location, right on the water but the meal was decidedly mediocre.

Safe Environment; Clean Sheets; Friendly Staff
The front desk staff was more than willing to help us out with printing "google" directions and recommending local eateries. Even though there is no continental breakfast, the "Extended Stay" indicates that (most, if not all) rooms are equipped with a kitchen, where a cozy breakfast can be made. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the area is very safe and secure. When searching for a hotel in the Oakland area, I worry about location and the surrounding streets, but Extended Stay America in Alameda is right on the water (ask for a waterside room!) and surrounded by a couple other hotels, and a quiet, suburban-esque neighborhood. Great Price, Great Location, Great Service.

Great place for an extended visit
We had a great visit at this hotel. Its on the water and our room looked over the Marina. We were able to have our dog with us, which was a plus. The service was good. The room was a small studio, which suited us but future travelers should be aware.
