Wonderful, grand hotel

We booked one night at this hotel because it was close to the train station and we were on our way to Toulouse to catch a flight following our 10 day cruise on the Midi Canal. Much to our surprise, we happened to have dinner at a former part of the hotel when we cruised through on the Canal. We were so impressed with the grand, old building and were delighted to find out that we were actually booked to stay at the hotel the following week. We particularly liked the lobby with its grand, sweeping staircase!! The Lonely Planet guide book warned that the front desk staff could be brusque, but we found them to be wonderful. They even helped us work on our French. They could not have been nicer. It was a wonderful stay and very convenient to the main shopping area as well as the train station and the Canal. Our walk to the Old City was a healthy one, but not a hardship at all. We would recommend this hotel to friends planning to visit the area.

Old-fashioned character.

Lovely old building, slightly shabby in places but good value. Staff fine and room was available at 11AM. Very handy for station and airport bus drop-off.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Close to main shops and a 25 minute walk to the old town (15 minutes on the way back because it’s downhill!)

Not impressed

At check in, they gave us a room that was occupied and we had to wait to get another room, which it was less of what we paid for in the reservation...
