Excellent, but big

We live in the Dominican Republic and have been to several all inclusives. In terms of service, cleanliness, quality of rooms, quality of food, quality of pools, this one is the best we’ve seen. The beach was nice, but there was a lot of seaweed in the afternoons. The main drawback to the hotel is that it is so big. When we go back, which I’m sure we will, we’ll ask to be put in one of the buildings close to the beach. Otherwise, one has to wait for a train or walk for 10-15 minutes to get to/from the beach to one’s room.

Can’t wait to go back!

What a wonderful experience after40 years of marriage! Because we have traveled to numerous places, our expectations were quite high. The Melia Caribe met them all! A small gliche was that our room was not clean when we arrived. It took a few phone calls. The food was exceptional. We had no trouble getting reservations for whichever restaurant we chose for the day. We are early risers, though, which allowed us to call at 9:00 am for reservations. Everyone at the hotel was extraordinary. We were transported with smiles at a moment’s notice. The staff always made your feel special. The pool was gorgeous and the beach was so much fun! We took advantage of the paddle boats, kayaks, and sailboats. We also brought our golf clubs and golfed 3 times, another great experience. We’re going back and recommend it highly to others.

Just Ok.....

We did alot of research before booking this hotel. This was highly recommended by friends. I would rate the hotel as average / ok. The grounds are very pretty. The room looked better on the website. The room smelled musty and the bed was very hard. We enjoyed hanging at the beach and also at the Casino bar. The bartender "Matteo" was alot of fun...what a hoot ! I think he was the only one at the hotel who really spoke English. It was hard to communicate with the staff at the hotel...since really no one spoke English... which was very surprising. The food was different. We mostly ate pizza, french fries and Paella. The food didn’t look appealing...so we didn’t eat much. However, the drinks were good. This is a very pretty place and we did relax but I really don’t think we would return to this hotel. They constantly hound you to buy a timeshare/vacation club, go parasailing, get her hair braided, etc. Everywhere you go...you get harassed...which annoyed us.
