Nice Hotel but lacking in service

Firstly there was little or no parking spaces. The hotel itself looked very nice on the outside aswell as the inside, obviously it is an old building and has been kept in very good condition. However we were not in there, rather we pushed outside into the courtyard rooms. This is not what we paid for. Looking outside the window there was not much of a view. Specifically, there were cars parked a few yards away from us, reason being because of limited parking spaces. There did not seem to be hardly anybody around during our stay. The hotel main building had a nice bar. It looked clean and they served a nice pint of beer. That night ,when we arrived at the hotel after five hours driving, we were starving and decided to eat in the bar. We ordered our drinks and food. However we did not get our food until two hours time. What had happened was that they had forgotten our order. We were later told that the woman serving us had left work and eventhough she had told another member of staff about the order, they had forgotten about it. That night left a bad first impression after the long journey we had undergone. The staff members had their cigarette breaks outside the main entrance. There was never a "Hello" or a "Goodbye", no endeavour to actually talk to us. A point to mention was that the hotel was in a good location. For us the service was poor and staff unfriendly partly I imagine due to a lack of older more experienced staff.

Alright for a short break not a long stay

Wonderful Hotel

It was a wonderful hotel with an interesting history. It had a beautiful exterior and interior. And, best of all, it’s only 20 minutes walking distance from all the sights of York(the minster, the wall, Guy Fawkes birth place, etc).
