Good value in good location

We were very pleased with the location, just off Las Ramblas and close to many restaurants, shops, etc. Despite this, it didn’t seem noisy and the area felt quite safe. Our 4th floor room was traditional in style, with a lovely floor-to-ceiling window on to a small balcony which overlooked a narrow street with shops and restaurants. It was great for standing and watching the world go by and getting a feel for the real atmosphere of Barcelona. It was clean and comfortable; and the bathroom, though basic, was clean and quite adequate. Our trip was in November, so I don’t know how the room would be in a hot summer; but to us it seemed excellent value for the price we paid.

2-day Tour Bus ticket is great value. You pay once then can get on/off the bus as often as you like to go and see different things. There are two routes which cover most of the main tourist spots and areas of the city.

Great hotel and location

The hotel is located perfectly with easy walking to see Gaudi architecture and the oldest part of Barcelona, the gothic section. Subway station was also a 3 minute walk from hotel. The hotel is on a quiet side street and the room was spacious. Because we stayed 6 nights, they gave us a room with an large outdoor balcony. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not think of staying anywhere else.

Hardest beds I’ve ever tried to sleep on !

We stayed at this hotel on two occasions during our vacation. Unfortunately both stays were nonrefundable or we would have left on the first day. When we first arrived the outside temperature was 79 degrees but our air conditioned room was about 85. We called the front desk who sent up someone who checked the thermostat and said "Sorry, that’s all there is as far as air conditioning. It’s on full speed." "Maybe you should open your window." Needless to say we were disappointed. Then we sat down on the bed and couldn’t believe it. The mattress on the bed was twice as hard as the box springs on my bed back home. We spent the night shifting every hour or so from one side to the other as whatever side was on the mattress would ache and go numb. Other than those two problems, everything else was reasonably nice. There was lots of marble everywhere and 12 foot ceilings. There was one other odd thing. If you wanted to have a remote control for your flat panel TV on the wall, you had to go down to the front desk to get it and leave a 20 dollar deposit. Also if you wanted to use the safe in your room, you had to pay a daily charge for this service. We opted to not use it.
