Thoroughly worthwhile stay
There are vast numbers of hotels in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul ranging from the apparently luxurious to the downright decrepit. Tash Konak looks a little different from the majority with its wooden frontage - though it is a fashion that several other hotels seem to be embarking upon. You probably wouldnt bump into it by chance but in fact is very central and quiet - save only for the early morning calls from a rather close minaret. A good small bazaar is very near and the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia less than ten minutes away on foot. The hotel clearly prides itself on its friendliness - most customer comments centre on that - and it is a reputation well deserved. The rooms are not large but nonetheless quite satisfactory and they are well maintained and cleaned. The breakfast room is on the top floor ( the third and no lifts) and offers a splendid view onto the Sea of Marmara (as well as onto a substantial number of scruffy nearby rooftops!) with its amazing amount of traffic movement. Oddly, the very friendly and helpful staff denied any knowledge of the Shuttle Bus system linking town with the relatively distant airport used by Easyjet. But an agency barely 50 yards up the road booked the 10 euro ticket for us and the service seems wholly reliable. But that did not detract from a very good stay.
Book shuttle bus travel from and returning to the airport on the Internet before leaving the UK. It saves a problem and costs no more,

Excellent hotel and location
Having read previous reviews before we went we were prepared for the rather small rooms and not much storage space. However, all of this matters little as the hotel is extremely well run. The staff were most accomodating all all occasions and as everywhere we went - a very friendly nation. The hotel is ideally situated for all the major sites in the old part of the city as well as within walking distance of the Golden Horn etc. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone and hope that one day we may return.

Tash Konak: your home in Istanbul!
The hotel: both the fabric of the establishment and the staff running it; lived up to their claim to be our home in Instanbul. Never less than genuinely friendly friendly and helpful, we enjoyed every aspect for Tash Konak hospitality, from reception desk through breakfast, booking services, refreshments and local advice.
