bit disappointing
I expected much more from the Stirling Highland. I had been in the Bar and Reception before and had heard good reviews. When I checked in, I was told that we were in one of the new renovated rooms. I was very disappointed. At first glance the room was nice, but the ceiling was peeling, and the tiling in the en-suite was of a very low standard. There was a horrible scuff or mark in the bath which made it look like a dirty mark. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly and room was kept clean. I stayed from friday to Tuesday, and found it quite noisey with children in the corridor running up and down. Other than that, everything was fine
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Stirling Highland is in a fantastic location. The hotel is in the old town, with the Castle and other historic buildings within a 2min walk. With the main town only a 5min walk. It is at the top of a very steep hill though - so be prepared!

Castle Location
This hotel was quaint and very close to Stirling Castle. Good for one night stopover. Paper thin walls. GPS helpful in finding the hotel. Decent value.
Traveller's tip on dining
Great pub just down from the castle. Good food and atmosphere.

Good hotel in Stirling
The Barcelo is very conveniently situated, has a good car park and is extremely comfortable. The only drawback is the breakfast. This was not included in the price, but we werent tempted to buy breakfast because of the limited range of items on offer. Otherwise, a great hotel.
