Strange hotel set up

The Preluna Hotel and Spa is a strange hotel, that seems to be made up of three very different hotels - joined only by the ground floor lobby. Our room was very basic - reminiscent of 1* self catering apartments (without the kitchen). The decor was dated, and the room slightly dirty and shaby. The facilities on offer out of season were great though. Roof top hot tubs, and an indoor pool and spa, roof top crazy golf and a ’sky’ bar with 360degree views. The staff were also very helpful. However, if we had been there in peak season, and been drawn by the advertised outdoor pool made by natural rock, we would have been sorely disappointed by the man made, shabby, salt water pool opposite the hotel, over a main road. The location of a hotel was great. We could walk to the nearby shops, and great bars and restaurants were a cheap bus ride away. I would definitely return to Malta, but not this hotel.

Sunny Malta in November!

Malta is a great place... it has plenty of history... some of its buildings and places are well worth seeing... like the wall city of Mdina... the Dome at Mosta... the fishing village at Marsalokks and the great scenery everwhere... including Valetta’s Grand Harbour... we went for a long weekend and were not disappointed. It was November... the temperatures were mid 70’s hot, dry and sunny!!! We had been there before some years ago and it was lovely to see it again, including the 1950’s Buses... Bedfords and Leylands! The roads had’nt changed either, more dips and bends than a funfair ride... and the some of the local driving was as bad as I have seen anywhere, inncluding the the dodgems at the same funfair! Make sure you get good insurance! Would we go again? Probably not... but not because we didnt like it... there are too many other places to visit and experience!

Must see Mdina

4 Star rated, not 4 star quality

The Preluna hotel is well placed within Sliema on Tower Road with it being a good spot for basing yourself out of during a trip, and also for moving about the island For our trip we were assigned a room on the 4th floor of the “Preluna Tower”. This we think was the newly renovated part of the hotel. We however found the finish within the room to be lacking in places. • Some of the room finishes were poor. • “Air Conditioning” that was feeble, and I suspect wasn’t even proper AC. • TV picture was poor. • The furniture in our room also appears to be the original furniture going by the wear present on each item. The laminate flooring was swollen at it’s seams from being wet cleaned daily. The facilities within the hotel are good, but lack the attention to detail you would expect for a 4 star hotel. • Changing rooms at the gym are cramped and have a low ceiling. • For use of the pool/ gym there is a hire charge for towels • Use of the gym facilities is an extra over cost if you are resident within the hotel €4.95 per day The hotel is also suffering currently from a couple of localised construction projects near the hotel. Through the entirety of our stay at this hotel we were woken daily by the noise of a digger with a hydraulically operated kango hammer attached to it. It appears to be excavating a local site, but it started at about 9am every day will 4pm. There was also other heavy plant machinery at this site during the day clearing this site and making as much noise.
