Nice location, pity about the room

Great location and great views from the bar/swimming pool and front of the hotel. I was however, put in a room at the back of the hotel which was in dire need of a deccent refurb, and was, by no means on par with that of a 4 star hotel. It also got extremely hot in the afternoons, to the point where I had to leave the curtains closed all day and leave the insufficient fan on, in order to avoid a very unpleasant sauna effect when returning in the afternoon. I would however stay at this hotel again, providing I was given a decent room!

Nice view of mountains

Thanks to the previous people who reviewed this hotel, I decided to pay the extra $15 a night and get a mountain view room. Definitely worth the extra cost. If you like mountains, the view from Rydges is fabulous! It is a bit of a walk, about 10 minutes at a good pace, to the town center, but it is a good location right on the lake.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Definitely go to Milford Sound if you get to Queenstown. I took the nakedbus.com trip and saved some money. I also did the Sunrise Balloon trip. It was incredible! It was expensive, but for me, worth it. However, he can only go on days it’s not too windy or rainy, so that’s about 50% of the time.

nice lobby, shoddy room

The staff was friendly, the lobby was nice, but the small ugly room had burned carpet and a torn shower curtain. I heard that the ’lake view’ rooms were better, but I bought the cheapo room.
