Good Room - Horrible Staff

First of all, DO NOT go to their hotel in Queenstown, that is the WORST hotel I have seen. Better to go and stay at the Crowne Plaza which is just down the road. I loved the Crowne Plaza. The Rydges have shown pictures which are either old or not of the same hotel. I was fooled and changed it on the first day. OLD and DIRTY room, carpet and restroom. But the Christchurch location was good, Old check-in lobby (very bad) just like Christchurch. But the room in christchurch was nice. The very first day a guy comes in WITHOUT KNOCKING the door and stares at us and when we asked what he wanted, he replied "Came to check the Snack-Bar. 2nd the girl at the front had the whole hotel open (she confsessed) and inspite of having other rooms and me asking specifically to give us room in the front of the hotel, she gave me a horrible room viewing the parking of the other building. And refused to give us other room. Then when I wanted to check out as my wife was sick, she stuck to just us checking out without refund or any help from her. (Dunnow her name, but she is asian). Won’t call her manager or anyone else.

Good but cheeky ways to make money

Good nice hotel in perfect location in Christchurch. Everything was ok but they just dont tell u that Parking is not free when u book and u find out when u get there. I travel alot cause of work and leisure but the first hotel i have seen in my life which dont provide even a single bottle of complimentary water in room and find it v cheeky how they put alot of paid water bottles around ur bed. (little cheap stunt to make some money for 4 star hotel). To use the wireless in your room cost you fortune if you are not on business

Perfect location & service

Ideally situated on the Avon River in the city center, Rydges was the perfect choice. The reception and concierge were exceptional, catering to my every request and provided additional, unsolicited advice which aided my travels. Prior to my arrival, I wondered what room-type I would be provided as it was a discount-rate. However, I was pleasantly surprised with a view of the Avon, coupled with the Southern Alps. I definitely recommend the Rydges to anyone traveling to CHC.
