Howard Johnson Hotel - Milford

Easy access to rt95 to get in and out of New Haven. Right on Rt1 and many times it was quicker to take rt1 and avoid traffic on 95. Diner and Friendly’s right next door. Many shopping malls within a couple miles. Staff was very friendly. Rooms and build was clean.

Watch out

The hotel looked as if it was put together in unplanned steps. There was a very confusing route from the front desk to our room, which was in a section of the hotel that looked like it was added on to the main building as an after thought. There was a side door that avoided the maze and made it easier to get to our room that was unlocked the first day we were there but locked the remainder of our stay. We notified the person at the front desk to no avail. The parking lot was small and unsecure with numerous trucks/moving vans parked there.

The Milford mall is close by, but don’t go on the week-end because of the very large amount of teens hanging out there. There were 3 incidents during our short trip there that the police responded to involving these kids. If you like this kind of excitement this is the place to go.

Not Impressed

Not clean, not comfortable, not good meal service around at all. Not recommended any more.

Great place to stay for the money.

The indoor pool and jacuzzi is awesome after a hard days work. This was my 3rd time here this year. Close to anything you need as it is right on Route 1. Staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

Pitiful excuse for a hotel

The hotel was dirty, it was difficult to find our rooms because they had a separate entrance to it and there were no directions/ markers in the hallways. It looks like a place that’s ready to shut down.

A decent place

The hotel is a decent stop. The pool room was to hot, could have opened the sliding doors to ventilate better. The exercise room is not well equiped and it is very isolated. The rooms were satisfactory. The hot and cold breakfast was acceptable. The hot part was packaged oatmeal. The hotel is located by a major highway for easy travel. If you are looking for a place to sleep this would be a decent hotel.

Horrible Hotel

dont know how to say this, but find some other alternatives !! we were traveling with 9 and 5 years old. front desk was not friendly, no one to help you with the luggage (this means if you use trolley, you will have to go few stairs - that means you have to unload then reload the luggage from the trolley). forget about the front desk, they forgot how to smile !! the carpet smells, the hallway creepy, people shouting from rooms (some of them were either too drunk or having a fights). the room is dirty, even one time, the housekeeping did not clean our room. When we filed a complain, the front desk said that a do not disturb sign was hanging on the door, which was impossible !! we did not hang anything at all. if you’re staying with the kids, find other alternative !!

As a very inexpensive option, this hotel was well worth the money. The facility was clean. There were no weird smells. The hotel was quiet. We did not use the pool but looking in, it appeared to be well maintained and there were other guests using it. The room had a small refrigerator, which was a surprise (2 full size beds). I didn’t spend much time at the hotel but it served my needs (and the sheets and pillows were soooo soft and comfy)!

Very Depressing Overall

Horrible front desk..Room is very depressing.. Corridors and elevators depressing.. I would not recommend to anyone unless you have no other option.. This is not the place to be..

Nature

The stay was overall a good one; however, the last night of our stay a storm knocked out the power for over 5 hours. Initially the emergency lights were on in the hallways, but as night fell the lights went out leaving total darkness. There was a gentleman walking around from time to time with a flash light which forced you to either leave the hotel for the duration or sit in a dark room. When we left not one word was said or even a free night was offered as compensation.

Underwhelmed

Moldy walls, uncomfortable bed, no in-room wi-fi, broken heater and short staff.

Worthwhile

I would stay at this hotel again if I’m in the area. It was in a great location right next to the interstate entrance and was comfortable.

Shows its age

We chose this location primarily on two considerations -- proximity to NYC and price. We travelled with kids so the pool was a plus. The building and rooms show their age but seemed reasonably clean and the staff was nice. There is a 24-hour diner literally next door and a mall three blocks down the road.

Not a hotel we would stay at again.

The facility is old, run down and dirty. The room was not clean. The exercise room was a mess. We didn’t dare try the pool. We had bugs in the room. We killed a few roaches. The bed was comfortable.

Lots of good dining nearby and churches. The beaches and state park were close.

Only one day at this hotel and it was enough. Pros: a Diner and a Friendly’s are located close to this hotel. It was a quiet area. Large room. Cons: Need total renovation.

satisfactory

It’s fine for a traveling family with kids. Carpet a little dirty. Furniture a little old---out of the 70’s. I will stay again when I work that area again.
