Cheap, clean and convenient
Frankfurt has a very good transport system so most places are within easy reach of the centre. The Golden Leaf Hotel is 2 mins walk from the number 11 tram which runs every 7-10 mins and takes about 5 mins to central Frankfurt. Its always unnerving booking a cheap hotel, but this place is very clean, and reasonably comfortable (more pillows might have been good). I guess this place is used for longer term stays as one of the cupboards in the room opens to reveal a fridge, microwave and cooking hob. Although the room price doesnt include breakfast, the hotel is linked to a restaurant - we were too hungover to get up though so cannot comment on price or quality; there are also lots of cafes within a minute or two walk. On the downside, some of the symptoms of "cheap hotels" were present: someone in the hotel obviously had a passion for garage music and pumped it out all night; and the smell of cigarette smoke was able to drift along the corridors and into the lobby of our room - although I think all the rooms on our corridor were non-smoking.

Good basic Hotel
Good basic hotel in an ok neighborhood in east Frankfurt. I was disappointed that internet was not included in the room price -- cost an extra 13 euro. Be careful of the extra charges. Location is 3 blocks from Ostbahnhof and the street trolley is close by as well.

A Great Deal if You Dont Mind a Slightly Peripheral Location
As others before have said, the hotel is a little bit out of the way -- a 10-15 minute tram ride to the central train station. However, it has much to recommend it. If you go when a convention is not in town, the rates are very reasonable. The room itself was very comfortable. People have complained about the thin pillow; I just brought a small down one along, also useful for cushioning gifts. Having a kitchenette was wonderful, particularly as there is a great supermarket one block away, where I found really healthy food, including ready-made salads and great yogurt..together with lots of yummy but not so healthy food. The hotel staff was also helpful in terms of helping with traveling-related questions. I did not eat at the restaurant but it sure is nice to have one at hand. Finally, as a solo female traveler, I felt very safe in the neighborhood during the day...not sure I would walk around at night, but thats just me. All in all, I couldnt have asked for more ... though its slightly peripheral location added a degree of inconvenience for me and the tour company picking me up.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
I found it difficult coordinating train and boat schedules to do more than two Rhine towns in one day. If it is really important to spend time in a number of Rhine towns, plan on an overnight or two in one of the towns and do your own tour. I ended up taking a day cruise from Frankfurt; it was OK but no great shakes. No regrets, though, as it provided instant companionship, and I had a relaxing day. The boat ride from Rudesheim to St. Goarshausen was enough since it was rather chilly that day.
