What to expect: The eight-story Executive Hotel Vintage Court is popular with corporate travelers and American and European leisure travelers, who appreciate the hotel's intimate ambience and central location two blocks from Union Square. Contemporary leather sofas and earthy hues give the living-room-style lobby a decidedly modern feel.

Insider tip: The main terminus for the cable car, where most visitors line up to catch a ride, is at the foot of Powell Street. To avoid the long lines at that location, guests can board the cars next to cable-car signs scattered along Powell.

Elegant decor includes red-silk lanterns, white-linen tablecloths, and toile-upholstered chairs. Hotel guests are often offered exclusive early seating options with special menu offerings. Open for dinner only, Tuesday–Saturday; reservations strongly recommended.
