Oldie but Still Goodie

This is a Very old historic hotel, not much in the way of updates so don’t expect an updated bathroom, but it is haunted, which is pretty cool except for the 100 or so people who stood across the street all night snapping their cameras hoping to get the mysterious orbs that sometimes appear in photos. The staff is very nice, very human which is a nice change from the giant corporate hotels and the history is very engaging. The lobby is beautiful but tiny. The hotel’s restaurant and gift shop were closed for an extended period with no explanation which was strange, we probably should have been notified in advance. All in all it was fun; a little short on glamour but long on good ghost stories. I am not sure if there are enough fans of history to keep it going, but it should be perserved somehow.

Looks like a lot of forgotten downtown cities across the country which are now being reclaimed and rebuilt, there are some beautiful examples of Art Deco and Moorish Revival structures still right there, most are empty, as the area has been hit hard by the economy.

Not impressed

The hotel is old although it has personality, the beds need to be updated, there was no tub, and the rooms are very small. On the bright side, the restaurant is to die for and the staff at the hotel was very nice and accommodating.

Older Hotel

The San Carlos is an older hotel, still in the original style. It provided a reasonable place to stay and was a close walk to the convention center. The free wireless worked but was low signal.
