very good new hotel
Just on the outskirts of Chester, about 30 minutes walk to town centre, or short taxi ride. The hotel was new / refurbished to a high standard. We arrived about 3 hours before our check in time, but reception staff were very helpful & allocated us our room straight away. We had a room service breakfast one morning, fantastic! We would definitely stay at this hotel on our next visit to Chester

Not impressed
I arrived at this hotel on Saturday 12 Sept 2009 mid afternoon to be unexpectedly greeted by 2 weddings which we knew nothing about. One set of guests were hanging around the bar area, the other were hanging around outside reception. After a 7 hour drive, and dressed casually, the last thing we wanted was to rush past one set of guests in a dischevelled and embarrassed state, then sit in our rooms without any alcohol because the other sets of guests had filled the bar. You would have thought a hotel aiming for 5 star status would have better catered for non-wedding guests. No doubt one set of wedding guests were equally unimpressed by having to continually make way for non wedding scruffy guests. The room itself was unimpressive. Half the TV channels didnt work; a light didnt work in the wardrobe; the speaker didnt work in the bathroom; the net curtains were ripped in 2 obvious places.

Clean and Modern but Lacking Character
This hotel is newly refurbished and has a huge modern extension. Apparently, the main building is listed, but if you are into heritage, dont bother with this building. In my view, the extensions and external alterations have spoiled the buildings setting and harmed its character. However, if you like crisp and modern this might be for you. The rooms were a touch small but well furnished and decorated with a lovely contemporary bathroom. A warm cookie greets your arrival which is a nice touch. The only drawback was the restaurant which is rather expensive and lacking in choice. Overall a good stay.
