mixed customer service

We went to the Electra Palace on the last day of our honeymoon. We had emailed them and let them know in our reservation that we wanted flowers or champagne- we would be happy to pay, and that we would prefer our double beds to be made as a single bed. When we arrived, we were rudely ignored at the front desk, and then sent to our room on the second floor. It was a narrow room with two separate beds facing the street. While it did have an amazing view of the Acropolis, the roof pool was closed (after 6pm) so we couldn’t hang out there. We went down to the small wading pool in the basement which was open till 8pm, with our own chaperone watching us. boo. On our way back to the room we did hear some lovemaking through the very thin walls... I called down to the front desk... no answer. The redeeming qualities: Great view from the roof bar, very central location and generally walkable from train and everything. Also- the bellhop/ concierge guy was very kind and helpful planning out our split second sightseeing of the Acropolis before our morning flight back to NYC. He arranged for a taxi wait at the acropolis while we ran around and looked for a half hour, and then drive us to the airport. Overall though, I wouldn’t recommend it for honeymooners. Or families. Or really anyone.

Nice place; delightful location

Once we found this little spot, we loved it. Within walking distance of subway and attractions and old city shopping and restaurants. Lovely garden dining. Pretty pool and rooftop view.

Recommended hotel ib Athens

This hotel is ideally located on the edge of the most popular tourist area of Athens, called Plaka, so is within walking distance of the lively markets and archeological sites as well as numerous restaurants, bars and tavernas. It has been made over very tastefully, with a charming, shady, garden area for breakfast and refreshments, and a magnificent roof terrace with a swimming pool, bar and superb view of the Acropolis. There is a restaurant on the roof level, but we found the menu overpriced and poor quality. For example the scallops were 20 euros and we were offered two only, not fresh but the frozen ones, and then my four modest slices of lobster were smothered in an oyster sauce which almost certainly came out of a bottle.... that was for 30 euros! So,sit and have a drink on the terrace and enjoy the view, but go elsewhere for dinner!
