It was awful experience
My wife and I had to reject the first three rooms they showed me upon my arrival. There was a strange odor all over the hotel rooms. Bad lighting, rooms with L shape and hidden windows and bunk beds like army husing . old elevators, stinking rugs. It was awful experience. eventually I told the precipitant that I would like to cancel my reserve and move out to the Sheraton. Eventually he took the risk and gave me the executive suite that equivalent to 2 stars hotel in the USA.

Standard Room-Nothing As Pictured On Website
The hotel lobby and the Duke of Wellington are very well maintained. The standard single room I booked was very old, the tub tiles were cracked in some areas, moldy in others. The room was fairly clean, yet dated and I was very surprised to see no bedspread whatsoever on the bed, just a plain, old blue blanket. I did not expect much for the rate, however, given they advertise themselves to be a 4 star, I did expect the room to be in better conditon given the pictures shown on the website. The hotel is in a perfect location right of of Hamra. There is a little grocery store just one half block away, the sea is within about a 10-15 minute walk. Some of the reception staff were quite friendly, while others were rather cold and stuffy. If youre just looking for an inexpensive place to sleep at night in terms of a room, I guess this place might work for you......
Traveller's tip on shopping
Very close to many shops along Hamra Street

Good and reasonable Hotel
The Mayflower was a good hotel, however, I must remark that the reception needs to be more freindly; I found that they do not smile unless you ask for that indirectly. The location was perfect, the first room was very poor for one night but was changed for me to an excelent one and that I appreciate for the man at reception. The breakfast area was poorly climatized and hence it was not comfortable; where I also would like to suggest they refurbish the cafes furniture. The Bar did not have customers but one does not need it due to the hotels best location. I sieze this opportunity to thank Mayflower management.
