A taste of paradise!
What an amazing resort! We stayed for 2-3 days at the end of March in a deluxe sea-view villa which is literally on the beach with its own private garden complete with hammock and sun loungers - heaven! The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was out of this world. On the first night we dined at the al fresco "Upper Deck" which has beautiful views out to sea and a fantastic value tasting menu. On our last night we ate at the "Bay View" which does superb seafood and cocktails. The Jiva spa offers a huge range of treatments that are much cheaper than youd pay in the UK. I had a traditional indian relaxation massage which was wonderful! The pool setting is great - lots of shade from the palms to escape the heat and a swim-up pool bar. I would definitely recommend this hotel for an idyllic, relaxing beach break.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
If you have time, a day trip to Mamallapuram about 30 minutes along the coast is a must-see! Ancient rock carvings, temples and shrines that are just mindblowing!

A good place to relax outside Chennai
This is a very well-maintained hotel on the beach south of Chennai. It has several restaurants, including one on the beach, and a large swimming pool. The rooms are large, but the bathrooms are quite small although they have a very large shower. The beach is not very clean and I would not recommend swimming in the ocean since the nearby fishing village seems to use it for a toilet. A trip into Chennai can take 1-2 hours depending on the traffic.
Traveller's tip on dining
The seafood restaurant at the hotel is very nice with a wonderful ocean view.
