Reception and Desk Concerns
The hotel offers the coldest reception that I have ever had in my 68 years. They almost ignored that we were standing there. The men were dressed in their black outfits with purple ties talking to each other in Italian while we waited to be recognized. Having spent all night flying to Rome we were weary and wanting a room. We had to wait a few hours as we had arrived in the morning but we did e-mail them in hope that we could get an early room. Througout our stay the main desk was very cold. Asking for Euro coins was like asking for gold. The breakfast area was excellent. Food very good and workers very helpful. This hotel is in a safe area but far from the "action". Very expensive for what you get.

comfortable and convenient hotel
We stayed at VP for 4 nights in early November. Location was convenient for most tourist sites(walking distance). It would be a bit of a walk to the Colosseum but the no 87 bus from Piazza Cavour takes you there in 15 minutes for 1 Euro. Reception staff were fine and helpful. Our room was reasonably spacious and queit (as requested) with ample storage space and an excellent bathroom. Comfortable (firm) large bed. Didnt use the mini-bar fridge due to usual silly prices. Self serve buffet breakfast (included in our room rate) was excellent with wide choice and kept well topped up. There is a nice very modern lounge and bar which serves drinks and snacks, although prices are steep for Britons suffering from the collapse of the Sterling exchange rate. There are a few restaurants near the hotel for dinner. Airport shuttle bus transfers booked through Expedia worked fine. Would stay at VP if we visit Rome again.
If staying at Visconti Palace there is an excellent basement restaurant about 200mtrs down the road from the hotel called Alle Due Fontanelle. We found the food so good and reasonably priced (and only 2 minutes from VP) that we ate there each night from the fixed price special menu chalked up outside. Choice of 4-5 starters, 4-5 main courses, dessert, bottle of water, wine and coffee for Euro 18 per person. And the menu changes from day to day. Must be one of Romes best bargains. Second tip: worth booking Colosseum/ Forum ahead (via Expedia) to avoid queues. Similarly a timed admission to Vatican Museum can be booked ahead on Vatican website (4Euro premium is charged for over admission price at the door but you avoid possibly long queues)

Visconti Palace Hotel
The staff at the Visconti Hotel was wonderful!!! The hotel was charming. It is close to the airport, close to pizza for dinner, and had free wi-fi internet. We would definitely stay there again.
