clean hostel type accomodation

located within the central train station complex (don’t even have to go outdoors), this is a clean hotel with the feel of a hostel. there really isn’t a main desk or a lobby to speak of and the clerk has so many things to do that you can’t expect much service. the bed/room was clean and comfortable but a bit small even for a one night stay. the train station is close to the main shopping street but is not a very charming area especially at night. the place suited our purposes because we were in oslo for less than one day travelling on the norway in a nutshell tour.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

don’t miss norway in a nutshell, an extraordinary one day trip into the phenomenal fjords.

Love Oslo... Scandic hmmm

We stayed at the hotel many years go before we lived in the city and decided that two days back there would add some nostalgia to the visit. The staff on check-in were great, very helpful. However we were asked to leave a 500NOK deposit on account of not having a credit card handy - very odd because we got the money back in full upon checking out without any inspection of the room so no idea why we were asked to hand of this money?? The room was exceptionally basic. Under the beds was lots of dust - I found this out after dropping my wallet - plus I also found a credit card receipt from a previous occupant. The breakfast was passable but nothing special. We probably won’t go back to this hotel although no problem with going back to Oslo

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Yes Oslo is expensive - I know we lived there for three years! However be sensible, don’t go for a drink in the city centre, the bars are cheaper and have more character in the suburbs. Same with restaurants. Relatively cheap snacks/food in Deli De Luca and Narvesen, or supermarkets like Rimi1000. Big tip - buy duty free’s on arrival, there is a shop in the baggage reclaim area before going through customs and Oslo DF is relatively cheap compared to others.

Just right for us

We like a hotel to be clean and comfortable and the staff to be helpful, but we do not require luxury. This hotel met our standards wonderfully. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we had our entire trip. The location is excellent for access to trains and buses to other parts of Norway.
