Great Hotel
Never stayed at a 4 star hotel... it did not WOW me as much as i expected but was very beautiful in almost every way. Bathroom was a bit too simple for me, i guess Im old fashioned, i prefer marble and wood not carpet and pink tile but all in all very nice (no toiletries or bathrobes .. kind of disappointing),.

Great place from which to get around Helsinki
having tested a lot of other hotels in the City, this one ranks high up there. Ok so its out by the harbour but the No 4 tram makes getting central really easy. The walk to the hotel from the center is a pleasure anyway as you pass down the beautiful Esplanade and the busy Harbour front. The Hotel itself is in a terrific old maritime building and rooms are spacious and well equipped. Facilities are good also but I have to say that eating in is limited with only the restaurant/breakfast room (very nice though) and bar snacks available. On top of that they are not always open especially on weekends. My only gripe is breakfast. Ok theres quite some choice at the buffet but the food is cheap, tasteless and they just throw it out of the packaging onto the serving dishes. And its exactly the same every day, every time I visit..... boring, tasteless and no variety. Other than that, the staff are lovely and place is such good value compared to other 4 stars in town and well worth it.
I am amazed at the nightlife. Bursting and loud bars which on the right night are packed. Some have multiple bars/dance floors and the heaving masses and variety of music playing make a visit worthwhile. Kalle on a thursday is pretty wild, tried another one called Koenig which was the same on a friday. If the Finnish seem a little cold and hard on the outside then watch them at play in these places. It is amazing how many Finns can dance on a small table without falling off!
