Ostsee Hotel Glueckburg
This hotel proved to be even better than we had expected. It is right on the waterfront, with no passing traffic - absolute bliss! (There’s safe garaging to park the car at no extra charge) The beach is sandy and has ’Strandkoerbe’ to rent; the water is clean and safe for swimming - ideal for families. There’s a promenade along the waterfront and a top-rated sailing school a short walk away. We had a room with balcony and views over the fjord, across to Denmark. The room and bathrooom were spacious and clean. There’s a separate dining room for breakfast with a wonderful selection from their buffet. We ate in the hotel in the evenings as well and in general the food was excellent with plenty of choice from the ’day’ menu and a la carte. Service was friendly though the Sunday staff lacked experience. Afternoon coffee and cake was a pleasure - especially as it was warm enough to take advantage of the seating on the terrace with views across the fjord. Gluecksburg itself is a 15-min walk away through some woodland, which takes you around part of the lake of the Schloss - which is itself worth a visit. We also took the boat to Flensburg one day. The boat leaves from the little pier just a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel. It was lovely not to have to use the car at all. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have spent longer there!
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
This is the ideal place if you want to relax: Take the boat to Flensburg for a day at the shops. Walk through the wood to Gluecksburg ’town’ centre - there’s a good supermarket and other small shops. Visit the Schloss. Swim. Walk along the waterfront.
