Great location

We spent 6 nights at the hotel in October 2009. The location is perfect. The hotel fronts on the Arno River and is just a short walk to the Ponte Vecchio, so it was easy walk to all sites, shopping and great restaurants on both sides of the river. The rooms were larger than many in Europe and very elegantly appointed. The breakfast was high quality and the service at breakfast was exceptional. A little change in the menu would have been appreciated after 6 days, but a minor issue. We ended most evenings in the bar for a nightcap and the bartender was superb. Not only was he a great gentleman, but he had wonderful suggestions on restaurants, sites, gelato (!) and more. We would go back just to spend time with him. My only complaints: (1) Get a real hair dryer in the room! The hotel is still using the circa 1970 wall-mounted hose things. We were in the third week of our trip and our 8th hotel. This was the only place that didn’t have a decent hairdryer (and no one wants to travel through Europe by train hauling a personal hair dryer). The bathrooms are otherwise modern, beautiful and very functional. (3) Stop piping in radio station music throughout the hotel. The pop music was scratchy and out of place in such an elegant hotel. (3) The reception staff was cool and impatient, which was the first time we had experienced that response on our trip. It seems that a little courtesy rather than impatience would have gone a long way toward making the hotel first rate in every way.

Lovely hotel in Florence

The Hotel Berchielli is on the river Arno close to the Ponte Vecchio and couldn’t have been more convenient for walking to most of the interesting places in Florence. The breakfast was great and a good start to the day! Hotel staff had good English and were helpful. Try it!

Excellent location

We had a great stay in Florence. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of all the sights. The staff were helpful and the breakfasts were extremely good with plenty of choice and even hot food on offer. The hotel decor is rather dated - one of faded grandeur and our ’bathroom’ (shower only) was a little ’tired’. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room either. However the other factors made up for it and we would go back.

Lively indoor market ’Mercato Centrale’ is great for browsing and seeing local produce and for food gifts to bring home. Fresh Parmesan is good and much cheaper than in UK and they will vacuum pack it for you to bring home.
