Good place to be in York

This hotel was centrally located for all of the York attractions. Easy access to public transport including the railway system. Sight seeing is always a pleasure in York except some attractions do contain long lines.

What no White Wine?

This was booked as a surprise 60th birthday treat for my Wife for the 19/20th September 2009. On arrival (we got here early), the receptionist dealt with us very professionally and offered to look after our bags whilst our room was being prepared. We went off to do some site seeing. On return we booked in and went up to room 211, which had a lovely view out at Cliffords Tower. The club basket contained a quarter bottle of red wine, a bottle of sparkling water and orange and a pear. When the concierge brought up our luggage I politely asked if he could exchange the red wine for white as my wife did not drink red wine? He said he would go and check. He re-appeared shortly after to tell me that the only way he could exchange the red for White was if I paid for the full bottle of White as the hotel did not provide quarter bottles of white wine in the club baskets. I find this very disappointing, as not everyone drinks red wine! My wife said not to make a fuss and drank a small amount of red with a large amount of sparkling water. NOT what I had in mind. Apart from that the breakfast was as I expected it to be in a Hilton hotel, although I did notice a long queue at times to be seated. Check out went smoothly, and again looking after our bags until we were ready to leave York was very useful.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Take in the Railway museum. It’s free and even my wife who has no interest in trains found it a good 2 hours.

Great hotel in York

We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton in York. It was well located. We were able to get four people in a room (2 double beds), unlike any other place we stayed in England. The man at the front desk told us places to visit and where to eat and was very helpful. Parking was in the building and convenient.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

York is a great city. Full of history, and small enough that you can get a good feel for the place by walking around. The free 2 hour walking tour was excellent. The brewery tour was also interesting.
