Would stay again
You get exactly what you would expect at an old elizabethan manor house hotel. Loads of old world charm some in need of tlc! The 3 course meal at £26 was lovely but don’t expect too much from the Bar!! Excellent service and attention and a lovely clean room for the night.
A visit toThaxted nearby is a must.(5 miles) Loads of unspoilt history and don,t forget to visit the 15th century church next door to Whitehall.

Perfect fix for the usual airport hotel
Rather than stay at a typical characterless airport hotel, we take a 10£ , 8 minute taxi ride through the beautiful English countryside and stay at the Elizabethan Whitehall Hotel. Charming and delightful. It turns an otherwise tedious venture of transfering from Stansted airport to Heathrow the next morning a memorable experience. We took a walk in the countryside, sat on a bench in the church next door. The staff is lovely and helpful. The formal English garden to the back of the house is beautiful. The rooms are all different and charmingly decorated. We have stayed here more than once in different seasons. We fly from Spain on discount airline Ryanair to Stansted airport and then take the bus the next morning from Stansted to Heathrow for our flight back to the states.

Whitehall Hotel - Broxted - Very Poor Room!
The Hotel looks nice as you drive up to it, but the room was damp, musty and seriously in need of renovation. Mould up the walls and insects running on carpets. The bathroom again was very damp with mouldy carpet and mould up the walls. Also the shower was less than useless with the water merely dribbling out - probably a good thing though as the shower screen would not have stopped any splashes from soaking the room - which was carpeted adding to the damp, musty smell. Overall, poor in need of renovation!
