Very nice hotel
The hotel is a very nice modern 5* - and worth this rating. Our room was very nice - massive bed, a seating area with sofa, armchair and flat screen TV. Patio doors to balcony with table, chairs and great sea views. Lovely to watch the cruise ships coming in to Funchal and out at night so that you see their lights as they head for the horizon. The mini bar prices are expensive but there is no charge for using it for your own drinks – the wine / groceries shop 5 min walk left of hotel was our favourite for stocking up with beer and water. This shop also sells a whole range of madeiras and ports including vintage ones. There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, plus helpful pool staff. Towels for the swimming pool areas provided, you don’t need to bring your own. Breakfast was excellent, with a choice of cooked, cereals, cold meats (even smoked salmon), pastries and fresh fruit (try the pineapple). We went B&B – the hotels evening meal was 30 euros pp ex drinks. Cant comment because we didn’t try it, but we ate out nearby or in Funchal for around 20 euros pp inc drinks.
We would recommend taking the cable car to Monte Gardens. Not too scary a ride, great views and lovely gardens at the top.

excellent hotel
Hotel location is right on the seafront - perfect for a dip in the Atlantic, although the (very salty and rather cold) outdoor pool provides a great alternative. The cafes and restaurants of central Funchal are within comfortable walking distance. We shall be returning before too long!

You wont be Dissapointed
I visited the CS Madeira Atlantic in eary September & thought the hotel was brilliant for what we paid through Expidia. Friendly & helpful staff. Spacious & clean, air conditioned rooms. Amazing pool area with 2 infinty pools and ample sun loungers. Had loads of fun jumping into the sea & off the nearby pontoon. There is so much choice at breakfast Ive put on 2-3kgs in a week. The hotel also offers loads of other activities such as tennis, ping pong, basketball court, kayaks, gym & pool table. Dont go home with out trying Jonnys Hydrogym class! Only complaint would be the very expensive pool-side bar, but it didnt stop us.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
If you enjoy taking high tea, book into Reids Hotel just a short walk from the CS Madeira Altlanic towards Funchal. Must be smart/casual (shirt, trousers & shoes for men).
