Ideally placed for sightseeing

Two minutes’ walk from the Parliament building, three minutes from Akker Brugge the Thon Hotel Cecil is a great choice. The beds are very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the free coffee from reception very welcome. Breakfast is good, and the whole hotel is well looked after. One or two niggles - Oslo city centre is very lively and on Friday and saturday nights it can be too noisy for the double glazing to cope with, but that’s not the hotel’s fault. This hotel is seriously recommended if you’re going to the very expensive city of Oslo.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Oslo is unbelievably expensive - pizza around twenty pounds each, a reasonable dinner around forty pounds each without alcohol. Here is a real money-saving tip: Buy an Oslo Pass - we saved around sixty pounds each in one day on transport and museum entry charges. On Roald Amundsen gate, about two minutes from the Thon Hotel Cecil is Brasserie 45 - eat here, because the set menus are delicious and very reasonable.

Great central hotel with very helpful staff

I was really impressed by how helpful the reception staff were. On check in they dealed with our requests very helpfully, and then throughout our stay they gave lots of helpul advice about good places to visit and getting around, etc. I also liked that they had free internet access and free tea and coffee in the reception. The hotel is located centrally near the harbour, parliament and the main shopping street. The room and bathroom were nice, and they had a good breakfast.
