Confusing pictures

The Hotel Riddargatan is located right in the most fashionable area of Stockholm. Perfect for designer boutiques, restaurants, bars and theatres. It was a great place to stay as I was only in Stockholm for four days. However I was disappointed with my room as it did not live up to the pictures on the Expedia website. Having worked for Elle Decoration magazine, the decoration and fixtures shown in the rooms on the website were what attracted me to this hotel. But my room was nothing like that. It was very basic and boring and could have been in any 1980’s business hotel. When so many pictures on the website show lights by Ferrucio Laviani and Sebastian Wrong, chairs by Arne Jacobsen and feature wallpaper, that’s what you expect when you arrive so I feel that I was slightly misled. The website should show the more basic rooms too. Apart from that I have no complaints about anything else and would recommend it to anyone who just wants a clean functional base in Stockholm.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

The breakfast is really good here. Platters of cold meats, soft and hard boiled eggs, a wide range of cheeses and breads, crackers, croissants, sausage, bacon, cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juices, tea, fresh coffee. If you make the most of it you could skip lunch although the Cafe Riddargatan, Number 12(?) on the same street does a good lunch for 75/85 kronor which includes salad and coffee.

Excellent service and location

Excellent location close to transport, dining and activities. Fast Wifi connection. Breakfast provided a wide variety of options. Comfy bed and linens. Shower glass looks nice but since it doesn’t seal at bottom you will find that the tile floor has standing water after your shower.

Prinsen’s restaurant was excellent food and service.
