Do not stay in the adjacent cottages

We were a big party (booked at least 10 rooms) which gave us the opportunity to compare the range of rooms - from the most executive suites to the servant quarters(cottage rooms). There is such a big difference between the main house rooms and the cottage rooms, it would be worth paying extra to stay in the main house. Stay away from the cottages if possible as the stairwell leading up to the rooms is something out of a horror movie - cobwebs in every possible corner, path and walls full of slime - the slugs were enormous. As soon as you get to the top of the stairs, you see the row of doors down the pathway and we could have been mistakenly been in some sleazy outback motel. Good points: the surroundings of the hotel was phenomenal as it was extremely tranquil, and the breakfast was delicious with excellent table service. I would recommend but only if you were staying in the main house rooms.

Superior experience in a surprising location

On the other side of a hill from East Mids Airport and Donington Park race track, we weren’t too enthusiastic on the approach; but over the hill and you enter a small land of quiet and comfort, flanked by woods on one side and a bending river bordered by waterwheels on the other. The room (a superior) was spaceous, comfortable and completely relaxing; whirlpool bath, large-screen TV and views across the weir adding to that. Service was always available, prompt and thoughtful. Food in the restaurant was superb - the price and pretention for once equalling the quality of the product. Highly recommended.
