comfortable with no big surprises
The Westwood is a nice comfortable hotel but for a 4 star I couldnt get too excited about it. Its clean, staff are friendly and obliging. They moved us away from where we would hear the wedding reception going on that night. We didnt have breakfast but had bar bites which was fine but nothing very exciting. In fairness, they squeezed our order in on the dot of 9 but then they mixed up our table number and we didnt get served for ages. As I say a nice hotel but for 4 star I was expecting more...
its near the University but a good stretch of the legs into the city...maybe half an hour....a taxi costs about a tenner so weigh up how many taxis you might be using before booking this one.

Good Base for Galway & Connemara
The Westwood is a good choice for a Galway trip. A little off the main town, if you have your own transport it is great for a trip to Connemara or south to Cliffs of Moher. Receptionist said it is a 25 minute walk to town, but make that a QUICK walk or a jog! Rooms are a good size & modern. Breakfast is fine, with a good starter choice & then cooked full Irish if you want it. Staff pleasant, & the bar area is useful if you want a quick bar meal. One thing to take note...Ireland is expensive! A lot so, since the last time we visited. Reckon around $4 euros a pint & up to $20 euros for an average meal, although portions are usually generous. Galway is very lively in the evening, but I think prices are keeping the numbers down who like a noggin or 3!
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Hire a car,,,scenery around Connemara is breathtaking. Near Meem you can take in the Quiet Man Bridge,(for older cinema-goers) plus The Field around Kinsala
