Great Street to Stay on, but Horrific non-customer service oriented hotel
This is a great neighborhood to stay in. Via Layentana is parallel to Las Ramblas by 2 blocks. On one end you have the port and on the other the Sq. It is adjacent the Barrio Gothic district and Old Town. Many options for food and drink and close to tansportation, but also very walkable as well. The Staff on the other hand is rude, unfriendly and acts as if they are paying you to stay there. There is NO INTERNET at this hotel. They advertise free high-speed-wireless. It doesn’t work. It did not work for the 5 nights i stayed there. Everyday there was a different excuse with a promise of a technician in the am to fix it. Never happened. The two PC s that in the lounge, but the internet on those are slower than a dial up modem via 1998. The attitude of the staff was horrific. I was told "what do you want, it’s free". Free nothing, high speed was advertised, not non existent, non working speed. Even on their own computers. I could let the internet thing go, but the maid service was even worse. The beds were made and the trash was emptied, thats all. The bathrooms were never cleaned nor were the glasses replaced. Candy wrappers were left in the same place for 3 days in a row. I had to go to the front desk to ask for towels which were given to me with an attitude. DONT STAY HERE! It will give you a bad impression of the beautiful people of Catalunya.

Great Central Location
The Confortel Almirante is a short walk from the city center, Placa de Catalunya. For tourists traveling via public transportation, this is ideal. You can catch a bus or hop on the Metro with ease, giving you access to the entire city. I felt quite safe walking the square and the neighborhood near the hotel very late at night. The hotel staff were very helpful and most spoke English (or quickly found another hotel employee who did to assist you). I greatly appreciated the free bottled water the hotel stocked in my room’s refrigerator on a daily basis. After a long, hot day walking the city this was a most welcome surprise! This is a great hotel for travelers looking for a central location to base their stay in Barcelona.

Lovely hotel - BEWARE of pick-pockets!
Hotel was nice & central, very clean & tidy, room a bit small, but this is to be expected with European hotel rooms.
Traveller's tip on local attractions
Be very aware when on the metro, my husband got pick-pocketed when a drunk guy started banging into him, antoher one was stealing his wallet! Luckily my husband noticed & chased the man & got his wallet back, be very careful as they can get your wallet regardless of where you put it
