What a disappointment
We booked a non-smoking room and after arrival (mind you, we arrived early so there should have been plenty of rooms available) we were thrown into a smoking room. It smelled awful! We had already payed for 3 nights and since Tokyo is so expensive we had to tough through the torturous air. Every single day for all 3 days we requested being switched to a non-smoking room with no avail. While the staff was very friendly, there is absolutely no excuse for this mistake. Obviously, hotels make mistakes, so you can take what I said with a grain of salt. What you cant take with a grain of salt, however, is how crappy this hotel is otherwise. The carpet in the room was so old and rundown that the red color of the carpet was white in many high traffic locations. The fixtures, equipment, and furniture are all obvious originals from the early 1980s. The bed is the hardest bed Ive ever slept on...but dont worry, they threw a .25inch mattress pad on top (saracasm). Tokyo is expensive. But this hotel is ridiculous in price for what you get. Pay $25 more and stay somewhere better. The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is that the staff is very friendly (mind you, they speak very very little English) and the view from the room is very nice.

Great Value/Excellent Staff
Walking distance from downtown Ginza or 2 stops on gray metro line (6 stops from roppongi). There was a massage chair in the room and although it was not the greatest was free and a nice touch after a long day of walking. Room was exceptionally large by Japanese standards, and staff went above and beyond to help you answer any questions in an above average level of English. The views from all the rooms should be excellent as the hotel operates on the top 10 floors only. Also there is an amazing view form the sky bridge connecting the two buildings and an excellent observation deck that is free on the top floor of the other building open until 7:30 pm that should not be missed. Two Konbinis in the hotel + McDonald/Starbucks and Japanese food court on first floor, with fancier restaurants on the upper floors. Dont forget to walk behind the hotel and check out the view along the river. Convenient to:Akiba (Akihabara/Asakusa/Roppongi/Ginza/Tukiji Fish Market/Odiaba/Emperor palace Not Convenient to: Shinjuku/Shibuya/Harajuku/Omotesando/Yoyogi/Ikebukuro.

Great view over Hamida River
Hotel New Hankyu is situated 10 mins from Tsujiki Fish market and 5 mins from the nearest metro station where all the sights are between a 5 and 20 minute metro ride away. Easy to get to from Narita Airport - you take the Express train to Tokyo Station and then its a 10 minute taxi ride from there. All rooms are between the 34 + 36 floors so the views are excellent, however the rooms themselves are a little outdated and could do with some new carpet, but were spotlessly clean! The staff were very pleasant and helpful and spoke very good english. If you dont mind the thinning carpet then it is very good value for Tokyo, I would stay there again.
