Redcar Hotel

The Redcar Hotel is an elegant Georgian Town House Hotel in the lovely city of Bath and situated beside Henrietta Park. We can be reached by a pleasant walk over Pulteney Bridge into the largely traffic free city centre. Henrietta Street, on which The Redcar Hotel stands, was designed between 1788 and 1792 by Sir William Pulteney and named after his daughter Henrietta Laura Pulteney. Three Georgian town houses were first converted into a Hotel in 1949. It was later sold to an organization owned by the famous entertainers Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, who then spent a large amount of money extending and developing this fine hotel.

Cheap and cheerful
The Redcar Hotel is in a great location and was easy to find. There is a small free car park to the rear of the hotel which gets very full! The reception were very helpful during check in. Our room was small but contained all the essentials. The bathroom light was not working on arrival but reception resolved the problem promtly. For the price the condition of the hotel was as expected. The decor is fairly dated but not offensive. The location of the hotel was perfect for us - a five minute (flat!) walk to the main attractions. My only complaint about the room would be the comfort of the bed.

Wonderful Reception Staff
I found the Reception staff friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I arrived many hours early for check-in but was invited to return to my room hours before the official time. That was their attitude all the time: service without servility. Delightful. The location is excellent, central but miraculously quiet. Breakfast just adequate but the service compensates.
Traveller's tip on recreational activities
Dont do the Bizarre Bath walking(!) tour if you are sensitive about jokes about nationality etc. Not funny. Hop-on-off tour good. The spa is magic. Book a treatment in advance.

OK
Chose this one for price and central location. Not disappointed by either but hotel did require some updating. Still, would say worth considering for a cheap no frills stay.
