Just minor points
The Location, Reception, Breakfast, room etc were everything we expected. Parking is VERY limited although its not far to walk to the Public Car Park, its a minor inconvenience. Bar hours stated 0030 hrs but it was shut when we got back just after 12, although the Night Porter was first class. Other than that a very pleasant stay and highly recommended, especially if youre arriving by train!!!

Not so Royal Highland
A wonderful, imposing and comfortable entrance hall belied the dilapidation of the hotel rooms. Not what I would expect of the first hotel that visitors might encounter in Inverness or Scotland, especially being perfectly situated right by the train station. I can forgive the tired soft furnishings and chipped paintwork, I cant forgive a bath with a ring around it and a shower that couldnt be persuaded to work at all. Service in the breakfast room and bar/restaurant was at best indifferent and at times downright poor. The best thing about this hotel was the quality of the toiletries supplied in the bathroom. Staff didnt seem able to rectify anything notified to them. Had they been better trained, it would have been an altogether better experience. It really worries me, as a Scot who has worked in the tourism and hotel industries, that Scotland and Inverness may be adversly judged on a tourists experience of this hotel.

A pub with no beer
Although we were very pleased with the hotel itself, comfortable, old style, clean, very good breakfast, central location, the bar had no beer. People dont drink beer now, only lager, we were told. Unsympathetic, take it or leave it - we left it and went to a bar 50 yards away which had a good selection of real ales.
Excellent bar and restaurant at the Exchange close by, or the Snowgoose at Stoneyfield
