Magnificent dining room

Good hotel (with Expedia discount) but it’s the restaurant that sets it apart. A uniquely beautiful dining setting (the hotel is an old abbey) with expensive but seriously good food and service.

Needs updating - a bit overpriced

The hotel is in a very nice old building but just doesn’t match up inside. Everything’s slightly tatty and in great need of modernising. Perfectly fine and a good location but not enough value for money and some simple updates especially in the bar and lobby would help. Incredibly expensive restaurant which looked empty the night we were there - not surprisingly and especially with the town on your doostep which is the main advantage of staying here.

ok but could have been better

Well i don’t want to give you the impression that we had a bad stay here but it could have been a lot better, For a start, a satnav would have been helpful to find the room, not that it’s that big, just a little confusing, corridors with lazy motion detector lights and between them unlit halls make for a very empty and uncomfortable experience. We had a standard room which was definately on the small side but it was clean. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately i cannot comment on the quality of food as dinner was not available (!?), but be prepared for the shock of how much a dinner here would be for the two of you (or even if you’re solo) because you’d be looking in the region of £100 each without drinks unless you skip a course or two...if you’re like me, not feeling too flush for that kind of expense, head down to the local italian restaurant, good value fresh food and only 5 minutes walk.
