Great Location with a Very Venetian Room

The Rialto is located directly at the foot of the Rialto Bridge. For travelers wanting to stay near shopping, activity and restaurants - this is the place. Directly on the canal it is very accessible by water bus from the airport as there is a stop about 100 yards from the hotel. Very pretty room, very clean - the restaurant is basic but the European Breakfast in the morning was satisfactory. Extremely friendly staff and checkin was a breeze. I recommend this hotel without question.

Top location for a Venetian experience

My partner had stayed at the Hotel Rialto 11 years ago and was delighted to return in August ’09. You could not wish for a more central location - right next to the Rialto bridge. Our check-in was swift and courteous and a porter kindly carried our suitcases up the 36 steep marble stairs to our room, which was to the back of the Hotel Rialto and nestled amongst private apartments. Our room was decorated in Venetian style: fabric walls, co-ordinated linen / curtains. The downside was a steep climb up to our room plus the tiny shower which was a struggle for even my (slim) partner to get in and out of. Air-con worked perfectly and much-needed; fresh towels each day and our room was always spotless. Breakfast was standard continental breakfast fare; the staff tried to keep the trays topped up, but if you were fortunate enough to find a table outside then it was a nightmare to get any food, because the small breakfast bar area was also the entry/exit! Still, we had a memorable couple of breakfasts spent watchin the boats unload fridge-freezers and all manner of interesting-looking boxes, surrounded by tourists and locals by the Rialto bridge. We didn’t find the reception staff (all male) particularly forthcoming although when we did ask them direct questions, they were always very obliging. We would certainly return again, if only for the location - but next time we will ask for a room within the Hotel Rialto itself, we just couldn’t face those steep stairs again!

Traveller's tip on shopping

Head over to the San Polo area away from the majority of tourists and find charming shops where you can get more for your money (behind the St Toma’ vaporetto stop)
