The Lodge Alley Inn

Dating back to the 1700s, The Lodge Alley Inn exudes the warmth of a more gracious age. Its oiled pine floors, thick Oriental carpets, and intimate parlors with fireplaces reflect Charleston's European heritage. After an active day, settle for the night in a tall, four-poster bed. ...but remember the sales pitch!
Character hotel in excellent position, comfortable well appointed rooms. Sherry and cookies each day is a nice touch. Parking is offsite at $12 day so best to leave car behind rather than retrieve it each day. This is a timeshare-style property and there is a hard sell element to it - you are repeatedly offered tours of the property with up to $150 to listen to a 90 minute sales presentation.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Walking tours are well worthwhile and hotel can arrange them for you. Bay Street is very busy and a room which is not at the front is worth asking for.
