The hotel is very conveniently located near the Grand Place and train station. It is a good value but was at best average condition. Rooms are tiny even by European standards. There isn’t even room for a upholstered chair to sit on. Cleanliness was OK but not great. I found a pair of used women’s panty hose on the chair in my room so clealry staff did not check the room properly before making it available.. Bottom line a good deal but you do get what you pay for. There was a very good full breakfast included.

Scandic Grand Place Brussels

Within walking distance of Central train station but difficult to find depending on the exit taken from the station. Taxi drivers reluctant to take you because too close. Food, although a limited menu, good and service very friendly. No drawers in room and no personal safe was a definite disadvantage. Room size typically European but adequate for short stay. HS internet in room and free is good selling point. Check in/check out efficient. Decor in main areas good but corridors need an upgrade as will room shortly.

Amazing location!

Perfectly located within a 5 minute walk of the Grand Place, Bruxelles-Midi train station, subway to Bruxelles-Zuid, and just everything in the center of town. Safe to walk back to hotel late at night as well. Staff were very helpful and friendly--- never rude... always happy to help. Rooms were comfortable and impeccably clean. I will definitely return to this hotel.

Great location next to market.

Very nice hotel, convenient to the market square and numerous resturants. Breakfast had a very nice overall selection and good quantity. Definitely would stay here again on returning to Bruges.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

All of the local attractions are within walking distance. The train from Brussells to Bruges was very crowded for us and had standing room only. Pulling luggage on wheels is a potential problem for this city since it is almost entirely cobblestone, including the sidewalks. Several buses go directly from the train station to the city market/centre.

Great location at a great price

I highly recommend the hotel for price and location - no more than 5 minutes from the Grand Place and literally around the corner from one of the best bars in Brussels - La Morte Subite. The hotel is also clean and comfortable.

Quietly comfortable, excellent location

I would certainly return to the Scandic Grand Place. Helpful, friendly staff, and a quiet, comfortable room. Excellent shower/bathroom facilities in the room, which can make a huge difference. Central location without street noise -- all sites were walkable from the hotel. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure to get yourself a very detailed map of Brussels -- there are tons of tiny side streets that can be left off of less complete maps, resulting in extra time pounding the cobblestone streets.

OK but.......

Good central location but rooms are small and no tea/coffee in the room. Tea in the hotel is not made the English way and hot drinks are very expensive.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Grand place, Christmas markets and dozens of restaurants close by.

Excellent Hotel, perfect location

I was very impressed with the Scandic. It is furnished in a typically simple, Scandinavian style, functional rather than luxurious. It is very comfortable and is close to the sites of Brussls as well as the Central railway station. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. A very good place to stay.

Not impressed

Having stayed at Scandic Grand Place it makes me feel very embarrassed being Scandinavian. Normally Scandinavia stands for style, cleanliness and comfort, non of which applied here. On the possitive side is the breakfast buffet which was plentiful - although seating was insufficient - and the location.

Traveller's tip on local attractions

Don’t forget to visit the puppet theatre Toone with is laid back cafe/bar.

Comfortable and Great Location

I was apprehensive about staying here having read a few reviews about the size of the hotel rooms. However, I was pleased to find that the room was more than spacious enough for my partner and myself and we were able to both relax and unwind in the comfortable room we were allocated. The location of the hotel was excellent and gave us immediate access to Grand Place and proved to be a bonus when we were leaving a local bar at 4am on New Year’s Day, as we only had a short crawl back to the hotel! Sultans of Kebab offers one of the best Kebabs I have ever tasted, so its worth a try. Brussels is a great place to go for New Year and we were not disappointed with the hotel or location.

Great location, lovely breakfast.

These are the two reasons why I would recommend this hotel. However, for a longer stay, I’d rather choose something with a window and some daylight - our window was overlooking the lift shaft, so the room was dark all day long. Also, the furniture in the room are in dire need of replacing.

Traveller's tip on shopping

Galeries St Hubert is a wonderful place to shop. There’s a nice little shop there with international newspapers, so if you’re addcted to your morning paper, you can sill get it locally.

Very small room

It was at a good location and the breakfast buffet was nice. However the room was extremely small and there was not even a drawer to unpack my clothes. The bathroom did not have any extractor fan so the condensation made the floor dangerously slipperly after each shower. The soap dispenser was not refilled while we stayed. The door and the wall was thin so everytime other guest shut the door it woke me up. There was not a tea and coffe making facility so I missed my cuppa very much. It certainly was the worst 4 star hotel I’ve ever stayed.

Not as Advertised

We chose the hotel for great location and its 4* status. Even by European standards, this hotel is barely a 3*. Lighting was poor, and there was no place to relax. Two people in a room was one too many.

Traveller's tip

For one night near the Central Rail Station as a single traveler, is the only way I could recommend this hotel.

Convenient Location

The hotel is in a great location. It’s only two blocks from the Midi station and Grand Palace. The staff were friendly and the room was large for a European room. In fact the bathroom was comprable to an American hotel. The breakfast was very basic and the restaurant had a very limited menu. The bartender is also the waiter and bus boy so don’t expect fast service. Also avoid a room near the elevator atrium unless you like being up all night listening to the commotion down stairs. Overall it’s a nice hotel and very comfortable.

Location, Location, Location

Hotel was a business hotel rather than a tourist hotel. Best thing was location - easy walking distance from all the central touristy things, close to public transport and close to main shopping street so perfect in that respect. No tea/coffee facilities in room and limited restaurant BUT v.v.v close to alternative food/drink (always better than hotel) and rooms nice and clean and comfy if compact

Close to the centre but far too small rooms

Scandinavian/Ikea look and feel of the hotel. Fantastic location, very close to Gran Place and Gran Sablon Excellent breakfast On the negative side, despite very clean room, they are far too small for my standards However, overall a good value for money given the rate Expedia offered

Traveller's tip on recreational activities

Nice brewery "La morte subite" next to the hotel, just around the corner

Good value

I stayed at the Scandic for one night while visiting Brussels. The hotel is well located and a short walk to either the Grande Place or the Central Station. The staff was friendly and professional. The room was fine but very dark because of very low voltage bulbs they use in the rooms. Apparently, the Scandic chain prides themseles on being environmentally friendly. That’s fine, but the room was a little depressing because it was dark. Also, I did not care for the soap and shampoo arrangement...it was attached to the wall in a big bottle that you squeezed out what you wanted. Breakfast was pretty good. Overall, I’d stay there again. Oh, and free internet is a big plus.

Convenient

Our first allocated room had a strange odour possibly from cleaning. This was courteously resolved by changing room. This room, 401, was not too large but more than adequate. The bathroom was excellent and spotless. The breakfast was wonderful with plenty of hot and cold choices to suit anyone. Hotel is extremely convenient for Brussels Central Station. All considered a pleasant stay and would certainly return.

Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay

SNCB railway system nearby and a brilliant way to get around Brussels and the rest of Belgium

Scandic hotel review

Ideal situation for Grand Place and surrounding shops. Easy train ride and short walk to the hotel. Download a map and plan the walking route before landing. What appaered to be a main road on multimap, turned out to be a minor road. Pleasent hotel two streets from the Grand Place, great for shopping and returning back to hotel before yet, more shopping! Combination of continental and English breakfasts, only dissappointing part was the luke warm English breakfast.

Traveller's tip on dining

Most of the restaurants are situated between the hotel and the Grand Place, on the side ally ways and small streets. These offer set menus ranging from 12 - 18 euros (Nov 08) for a two or three course meal. Other restaurants are scattered around various streets. Where ever you intend to dine, you’ll enjoy yourself. Sit back, relax and enjoy the evening, or lunch meal.

Very nice location and service

Expedia had an excellent fair for this hotel. The hotel is located a block away from Central Platz and 5 mintes walk from Central train station, which is very convenient. Front desk people are great, food is excellent, room is a bit small but comfortable.

Traveller's tip for business travellers

Be careful getting a taxi from Airport. There are arabic taxi drivers offering a faster service than the only allowed taxi company on site. They would over-charge you. Also, ask the hotel specifically for not smoking room in advance.
