It had everything we wanted.

Great stay! You do need a car but you will want to go to the volcano, the waterfalls, different beaches, shopping and maybe even Parker Ranch. Kailua-Kona is about 45 min. away. The stay was a little spendy! For dinner, the "Coast Grille" was excellent. Try the Mahi Mahi or the fish of the day. Split a salad if you want. The service was excellent! I don’t think we have ever stayed where the staff was genuine, friendly and helpful. We are not golfers but the course was right there and beautiful. The beach was sandy for swimming and rocks off to one side for snorkling. One day, the surf was bringing in big waves, fun to watch but not recommended for swimming. A small town about 5 miles away with a couple of restaurants to try. We enjoyed "El Pesto." The room had a small refrigerator, the bathroom was huge, king bed in room; ocean view was acceptable; and slept to the sound of the surf. Very quiet and enjoyable!

Great Vacation Hotel

My wife and I were very satisfied with the hotel. When we arrived, they upgraded our room to a full ocean view room which was very nice. The service was very good and all of the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful during our entire stay. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was very relaxing. The beach that connects to the hotel is really good but it’s very crowded on the weekends with the locals plus the tourists. Weekdays were significantly less crowded. It was still nice either way. Food was expensive as you would expect at the hotel. I would recommend stopping in Kona at Costco, Wal-mart or Target to pick up snacks and ALOT of bottled water before heading down to the hotel after you arrive. There are small refrigerator/freezers in every room. We went through a ton of bottled water. There were a few small issues that I should mention which may be much bigger issues for other people. They charge $15 a day for self parking and $20 a day for valet. This hotel is about 30 minutes drive south from the Kona airport and having a car is a must. One other small thing was the pool and spa closed at 6pm everyday. We thought it was a little early. Other than that, it was a very nice place to stay. I would recommend this hotel.

An anniversary to remember

We spent our 25th wedding anniversary at Hapuna Beach. It was the most wonderful relaxing trip we have ever taken. The hotel was wonderful. All the staff were pleasant, helpful and responsive. Our room was ocean view which did have a lower building between us and the ocean, but still afforded a nice ocean view. We read previous reviews about the musty odor and bugs in the room and did not have trouble with either. We did have trouble with our refrigerator one day and they were there within minutes to fix it for us. We have stayed at more expensive hotels on other islands, while not as showy and plush, this hotel was our favorite as it is very comfortable with lovely grounds and a fabulous beach. We enjoyed snorkeling the cove on the property and seeing some sea turtles, the beautiful sunsets, and the many stars. The pool was also a wonderful afternoon and evening refuge. You will need a car to go out and explore the island and grab a less expensive bite to eat. One of our favorite places to eat nearby was Cafe Pesto. Our first stop on the island was Costco where we stocked up on beverages and some breakfast and snack items which we kept in our room. If you are looking for relaxation by the ocean, this is the place to go. We are looking forward to the time when we can return again.
