Great hotel in a strange location
I like everything about the Holiday Inn in Jantzen Beach; except for the location relative to its surrounding businesses. It seems to be out of place. Would I stay there again? Yes. The deskperson was genuinely very happy to me; especially after I called to reassure the hotel that I was running late but, I would arrive on the scheduled day.

Take the time to go to Washington Park in Portland. You can find the Rose Garden and the Japanese Garden in the same park. They’re great for the amateur or professional photographer.

The hotel staff was extremely friendly. The locaton of the hotel was convenient, but to experience Portland a little better, we might go for a place central Portland versus the outskirts next time. Either way, we had a pleasant experience. No complaints.
Traveller's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Stay in the middle of Portland. Driviving can be a bit confusing... Make sure parking is available first. Using the public transit is very convenient, but the best of what oregon has to offer is driving distances away. Happy trails!

Nice, Clean Hotel; Wonderful Stay
This hotel is located in Jantzen Beach, which is right across the WA Border and close to downtown Portland. The HI Express is located behind and within walking distance of Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, Target, and a big mall, yet it is far enough away that it was very quiet and safe. The front desk attendant was very friendly, offered advice on a local jazz festival and restaurants. The area is devoid of traffic and close to the I-5 on-ramp. The jacuzzi and pool were clean and relaxing. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. With a free continental breakfast, you can’t go wrong with this place. It is a hidden gem.

Hit up BJ’s Pizza and Brewpub in Jantzen beach. The BEST chicken caesar salad in recent memory, hand-muddled Mojitos, hand-made beer and deep dish pizza along with the friendly and upbeat atmosphere made this family restaurant and sports-type bar a favorite. I will be back.
