This hotel should be a 2-star at most.

You know the expression "you get what you pay for" , well this hotel is it. Location was good, but the first room i got was a closet (DO NOT accept room 223!!!!). i asked for a bigger room. It was better but still small. Room was clean but not renovated. Beds are just OK. No views (on a brick wall). Hallways are pretty old. Staff was friendly. Upon arrival guests were informed there would be NO WATER Sunday morning bet 6-8a. I would be sleeping so it was ok, but had i had to get up early that would have been pretty bad. I stayed for one night, had it been longer, i would have changed hotels. Worth paying more to stay in a nicer hotel. But if you don’t care about the room, want a great location, and are on a tight budget, and are not claustrophobic you’ll be fine. I would take the time to shop around though.

Amsterdam

The hotel is very old, small and needs a good claning - staff were nice enough but the room smelled dirtly and the noise was aweful - 6th floor and you could hear everyone talking on the streets - Have stayed in that area before and never had an issue - I did a bundle (flight and hotel) through expedia and this hotel was rated as a 3 or 4 star - no way - 2 stars at best due to location

Loved New York

Just returned from 5 nights at the Amsterdam Court Hotel and have to say after reading some of the reviews we were concerned, however, although by no means ’the Ritz’ I was extemely pleased with all aspects of this hotel particulary the location - less than 5 minute walk to Times Square. We booked a superior room and although not a huge room, ample space for 2, the bed was massive! Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Receiption and porter were very pleasant and helpful. We had an evening flight and the hotel stored our luggage free of charge after we checked out! My only complaint was the shower, although the bathroom was large, the shower was not very powerful and I ended up washing my medium length hair in the sink as the shower did not remove the shampoo/conditioner! When I go back to New York I would most probably stay here again. If you are looking for a good hotel quality hotel on a budget I would recommend the Amsterdam Court Hotel but would advise booking a superior room at a little extra cost for the space.

Words of advise, avoid a diner on 7th Avenue/Times Square called ’Roxy’s’ - 2 cups of coffee and a plate of soup was £15 and the waiters were rude and got the order wrong! if you want to go to Statue of Liberty, book tickets in advance as queues in Octrober were over one hour for ferry ticket THEN 2 hours wait to get on the ferry, also book crown tickets in adance as these are sold month’s in advance. Century 21 is a must for designer bargains Empire State Building is expensive for what you get, although no queues (9am) we were only advised when we reached what we thought was the top (86th floor) that it was extra for the glass observatory on 102th floor and tickets can only be purchased for this on the 2nd floor! While there we went to see ’Mamma Mia’ at the Winter Gardens which was fantastic - you can buy discounted tickets on the day in Times Square for all broadway shows- up to 50% off. We also went to see a hypnotist called Justin Tranz - again fantastic well worth the $10 each I loved New York and can’t wait to return although I will be waiting until after 11/09/2011 when the new ’Tower’ will be complete and open at what is currently Ground Zero. The subway in New York is a must - easy to use and for $2.25 you can get almost anywhere within the city.
